The first thing you'll want to know when visiting Cali is how to get from the 'Alfonso Bonilla Aragón' Airport to downtown Cali. This airport is located only about 16 km from Cali. It's actually located in Palmira (a nearby small city), but it's still known as the Cali airport as Cali is a much bigger city.
Here's a complete guide on how to get from the airport to the city by different means of transport.
Bus
Just outside the domestic departures terminal at the airport, there're mini buses running from the airport to 'Terminal de Transportes' (the bus terminal in Cali). These buses are part of Cali's public transport system, which is called 'Mio'.
These buses run from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm and they come every 10 minutes. The price for a single ticket is 7,000 COP (2 USD/190 JPY). The whole trip takes about 30 to 40 minutes.
From the bus terminal in Cali you can either take a taxi to your final destination or hop on another public bus. To catch one of these buses, walk to 'Las Americas' station from the bus terminal (8 minutes). From there, in order to get to downtown Cali - 'El Peñon' or 'San Antonio' neighborhood -, you can take bus number A05.
For an exact route, please click here to plan your trip. You can also download the 'Mio' App from the App Store or Google Play.
To Take the 'Mio' buses, you'll have to buy a rechargeable card at one of the stations. The card costs 3,000 COP (0.80 USD/80 JPY) and a single tickets costs 2,000 COP (0.5 USD/53 JPY).
Taxi
Taxis in Colombia are not as expensive as in other parts of the world. A taxi can be a good option if you're traveling in groupow with your family.
Official taxis can be found at the exit of both domestic and international terminals. A taxi ride from the airport to downtown Cali (San Antionio, El Peñon, Granada) costs around 60,000 COP (15 USD/1,600 JPY) and it takes about 30 to 40 minutes.
You can also download the 'EasyTaxi' App to order a ride. This app could also be useful during your stay in Cali if you're planning on taking taxis regularly. Get it from the App Store or Google Play
Private Transport
Probably the easiest way of getting from the airport to downtown Cali is booking your own private transport. A driver will be waiting for you at the arrivals terminal holding a poster with your name on it. No need to wait in line for a taxi, just straight to your hotel.
A car for up to 4 people costs 165,000 COP (40 USD/4,400 JPY).
